Distant

Country of Origin: India
Language: Hindi with English subtitles
Director:  Devendra Sinha
Duration: 1 hour 28 minutes

The director and his crew are travelling from Mumbai to address the Q&A session.

About the Film: D i s t a n t follows several ordinary lives unfolding in parallel—a father and son drifting through uncertain days, an ageing priest facing generational tension, and a woman returning home after years of absence. Through restrained performances and a measured rhythm, the film explores emotional distance, responsibility, and the quiet weight of unresolved choices. While rooted in a specific cultural context, the film’s concerns are universal, inviting reflection without imposing resolution.

Synopsis

Set across two intertwined worlds, d i s t a n t traces the fragile rhythms of ordinary lives caught between duty, identity and quiet despair. Inder, suspended from work, wanders through days with his curious young son, hiding his own failures while trying to shield the child from consequences. Elsewhere, an ageing priest and his son clash over tradition, memory, and the meaning of faith, as forgotten histories resurface. Parallel to them, Kunti returns home after years in prison, confronting a father whose dreams for her were undone by rebellion and circumstance.

Through intimate vignettes, humour, and quiet ruptures, the film explores generational bonds, moral contradictions, the weight of punishment, and the blurred lines between right and wrong. A tender, contemplative portrait of people trying to remain human in an increasingly unforgiving world.

In Silence

Country of Origin: Brazil

Language: Portuguese with English

Subtitles

Director: Alexandre Britto

Duration: 1 hour 35 minutes

About the film:

In Silence is an award-winning film from Brazil with a lot of suspense and explores delicate themes such as moral violence, sexual violence, sadism behind the scenes of the cinema industry, and silence as a tool of power structures. Glória, the character, is not just an actress, but a metaphor for the glory that a film crew seeks: status, fame, and money.
